Decaffeinated Tea Myth!!!

March 1st, 2008 by tmikuckis

got caffeine decaffeinate teaI think it is almost thought to be a fact by many tea drinkers that you can easily decaffeinate your own tea by brewing it for around a minute and then use the same tea leaves for brewing another cup, and the tea will be nearly decaffeinated. It is usually said that only around 80% of the caffeine is eliminated.

However, I just now came across an article that says that this may be a myth. The article states that only 33% of the tea caffeine is removed after one minute of brewing, and that it takes a complete 15 minutes to completely eliminate all the caffeine. If this is true, many of us may have been dooped when brewing our “caffeine free” cups of tea.

Another interesting thing I came across in this article is that green tea may have nearly the same amount of caffeine as black tea. I was always informed that black tea has the most caffeine, green tea has the second most, and white tea has the least.

I am not sure if what this article states is valid (although it appears to be and pretty much everything was proven through experiments) or maybe all these preconceptions we have about caffeine and tea are truly just myths. Here is the article, decide for yourself what you think of it. It really does bring up some interesting arguments.
