Cut Tea Costs with Multiple Infusions

March 6th, 2008 by tmikuckis

twenty dollar bill on a fishing hookLoose leaf tea can be very expensive. Especially the really good gourmet tea. If you are like me, and drink tea every day, you can go through quite a few ounces of tea pretty fast, and all this tea drinking can get kind of expensive. But there is an easy way to get two or three times the value for your tea.

Multiple Infusions. By using the same tea leaves to brew maybe two or three batches of tea you can significantly cut your tea costs. Of course, every time you brew the tea you will get a slightly different flavor. For some teas, I think the second batch tastes even better than the first. Also, if you need to serve a large group of people tea, you can also save money with multiple infusions. Simply brew three batches of tea with the same tea leaves, and combine all the tea into one pitcher before serving. This way you can serve large groups of people tea (or just yourself), without the heavy costs.

thanks for the money saving tip, because tea is really quite expensive (at least for the good stuff)
